## What happens to my garden waste?





 

 



After your green waste / garden waste bin is collected from the kerbside by the Borough and District Council's it is taken to the Veolia composting facility at [Oxton](https://www.veolia.co.uk/oxton). It is checked for contamination, shredded, formed into windrows and regularly turned to optimise the natural composting process. The green waste is processed over 12 weeks. Finally, the product is screened to a range of grades for agricultural use.

Composting is nature's way of recycling. Composting biodegrades organic waste (i.e. vegetable peelings, manure, leaves, grass trimmings etc.) turning it into a valuable fertiliser.
