## Recycle Week

Recycle Week, now in its 23rd year, returns from 14th to 20th September 2026. This annual celebration, organised by Recycle Now, aims to raise awareness of the importance of recycling and help people recycle more of the right things, more often.

2.3 billion recyclable items end up in the rubbish every year despite 88% of us recycling regularly. By saving more recyclable items from the rubbish bin, we can make a big difference to the number of items that go to incinerators and keep materials in use for longer.

But does it make a difference? Yes, what goes in your bins matters, and recycling can give items a brand new lease of life. When your council collects your recycling, it’s sorted at a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), sent to reprocessors, and then transformed back into products we use every day - from packaging to furniture. Your plastic bottles could become a raincoat. Your deodorant could become part of a train!

Before you throw them away, check the label. Can they be recycled? Often all it takes is a quick rinse for them to go into your recycling bin. That means they can go on to live more lives containing your favourite products, and reduce the need for more materials to be created.

## How to get involved

During Recycle Week, Veolia and Nottinghamshire County Council will be hosting three webinars each day: one for KS1 pupils, one for KS2 pupils and one for KS3/4 pupils. These webinars are free to join for all Nottinghamshire schools and will educate pupils on why recycling is worth doing and which items can be recycled in the household bins.

Webinars for each key stage have been staggered across the week to try and suit as many school timetables as possible. Please see our timetable to find a time that works for your class.

| | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday |
