Notts Recycles Go Green Challenge-Day 20

Are you keeping it loose?

Day 20 Challenge

Today is the start of the annual national Recycle Week so we’ll be looking at a range of ways of upping your recycling game! Today’s task is looking at how you put recyclable items in your bin outside.

When you put Items into your recycling bin outside, it’s important to make sure that they’re not inside bin liners, carrier bags or boxes.

Items need to be put in loose into your recycling bin because the sorting machinery at the Mansfield Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) has a hard time seeing through things like boxes to discover the recyclables inside. This means that they might end up being sorted into the wrong place.

Make sure cardboard boxes are flattened before you put them into your recycling bin so that nothing is trapped inside.

Carrier bags and bin liners are also a big no no as they not only hide other recyclables but can get tangled around the sorting machinery, slowing the whole process down. So, if there are any of these in your recycling bin, remove and discard them and make sure everyone knows to leave them out.
