So, we’ve learned that recyclables in Notts go to the Materials Recovery Facility in Mansfield to be sorted before they carry on their journey to be made into new products. But what about the other stuff that can’t be recycled?...
In a recent survey, 51% of Nottinghamshire residents asked thought that their general waste was sent to landfill for disposal.
In fact, less than 5% of general waste is treated this way with the vast majority being sent for energy recovery, where it is burned to make renewable electricity.
The small amount of waste that is sent to landfill is generally non-recyclable wastes or waste not suitable for energy recovery treatment.
Often once general waste is collected from your home, it is delivered to a waste transfer station before its end destination where it is stored before being sent for disposal.
